Charles McGee, born on Wednesday, November 5, 1958, in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Floyd McGee Sr. and Helen Griffin McGee, passed away suddenly on Monday, April 29, 2024. He was a graduate of Ardmore High School from the class of 1978 where he showcased passion for sports by participating in football and weightlifting. Subsequently, he pursued higher education at Langston University in Langston, OK. Charles had a deep-rooted connection to his faith, having been baptized at a young age at the AME Church in Ardmore.
Charles embarked on his professional journey with Uniroyal Tire Company in 1980 which later transitioned into Michelin Tire Company. He dedicated 34 years of diligent service to the company before retiring. On March 24th,1990, he exchanged vows with Estoria Shannon at the AME Church in Ardmore, a union filled with love and family values. Known for his amiable nature and infectious laughter, Charles had a knack for connecting with everyone he encountered. His love for music was evident as was his pride in being a loving father to his cherished daughters.
A passionate angler, Charles found solace in fishing alongside his dear friend Tony Smith; however, he reserved a special fishing spot that he generously shared with selected companions. Noteworthy is his profound camaraderie with his late friend and mentor Arnell Halstied.
Devoted to his faith community, Charles was an integral member of Tabernacle of Praise Church in Ardmore where he offered generous assistance in various church maintenance endeavors.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Floyd McGee Sr, a
brother, Lawrence R. McGee and a son, Jonathan Wrenn.
He is survived by his beloved wife Estoria of the home. Five children (and spouses): Kenya McGee, Sheleatha McGee, Michelle McGee-Rambo (Kyric), Jerome Shannon (Bobbi), and Derick Halstied (Nicole). Additionally remembered by four brothers: Floyd McGee Jr (Velma), James McGee (Violet), Ronnie McGee, and Gary McGee (Kristie); two sisters: Virginia Ellis (Craig) and LeeAnn Davis (Dwayne); along with sister-in-law Sharon McGee.
He is also survived by nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who held him dear. His presence will be profoundly missed by his countless other relatives and friends including the Ardmore Classmates of 1978 and the Tabernacle of Praise Church family.
