Finis Shannon was born October 7, 1928, to Memory (Stevenson) Shannon and Henry Shannon, in Milo, OK. She was the fourth of their eight children; McClellan Stevenson, Henry Jr., Elwood, Lois, Finis, Clemmit, Haile, and Sammy. To the family, Finis was known as “Yang.”
Finis accepted Christ as Lord and savior at an early age at the Greater Saint Paul Baptist Church and was baptized in a nearby church pond.
Finis began her education journeying by way of her father, who owned his own school bus picking up and delivering area children 50-mile round trip to Tatums OK. She graduated from Tatums High School in 1949. After graduation, Finis moved to Kansas City, MO. While attending training school, she met and married Leonard Jones of Paris, Tx. To their union Melvin, Lenora, and Kimberly were gifted to them from the Lord. Settling in the heart of Kansas City, MO., the family grew in grace.
Finis and Leonard joined Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church under of the pastoral ship of Wallace S. Hartsfield. Finis actively served on the Usher Board for many years, an active Mission member, and served as Program Director for the Youth Department.
Finis’ employment in Missouri began with Guys Potato Chip Factory, then Danny-Dare Childrens Clothing, finally retiring from Rival Manufacturing Company after years of service before Rival moved to China. Finis’ husband Leonard passed away in 1970. Thereafter, Finis to returned to school to further her education earning a degree at Penn Valley College and began a new career in the Kansas City, MO school district. Finis retired again and moved back to Oklahoma. New life began in Lone Grove.
Finis died early Saturday morning March 18. Preceding her in death, her parents, brothers, sister, her husband, Leonard; Grandson, Michael Colbert; Son in-law, James Colbert.
Left to cherish her memories, Melvin Stevenson, Lenora Colbert, and Kimberly Brown and husband, Tommy. 6 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
