Mario Orlando Maytubby, born on August 28, 1965, in Ardmore Adventist Hospital, passed away on December 6, 2024, at INTEGRIS Health Southwest Medical Center of Oklahoma City, OK. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, love, and cherished memories that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Mario's early years were marked by his passion for sports, where he played for both the basketball and football teams while in school. Although he enjoyed both, basketball held a special place in his heart as his favorite sport. He graduated Ardmore High School with the class of 1983, marking a significant milestone in his life.
A man of many talents, Mario was most notably the Grill Master of his family and friends. His grilling skills were unmatched, especially his signature dishes of ribs, chicken, and brisket. Mario's brisket was so tender that it did not require a knife; one could easily cut it with a fork. This passion for grilling was often accompanied by his love for music, particularly the works of his all-time favorite rapper, Dr. Dre. Whether he was grilling or simply relaxing, music was an inseparable part of his life.
Mario embodied a kind and loving spirit, known for being soft-spoken and always considerate towards others. His greatest pride was being a father to his four beautiful children: Marcus Maytubby, Akeia Pickens, Devonte Russell, and Holly McLeod, who, along with her husband Johnathan, he adored deeply.
He is survived by his mother, Georgia Mae Maytubby; his children; his sister, Darlene Maytubby; his brother, Karlos Maytubby, and his wife Loria; his brother, Stefan Perry, and a special friend, Isis Jones. Mario leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Mario was preceded in death by his father, Larry James Maytubby; his infant sister, Delita Kay Maytubby; his maternal grandmother, Sarah Berryman Williamson; his maternal grandfather, George Williamson; his paternal grandmother, Margaret Caldwell Maytubby; and his paternal grandfather, Bruce Maytubby.
